Internship Program

  • The Center for Career Discovery provides students with customized career-related activities and work-based learning experiences to support career exploration and future goals. 

    Why Internships?

    • Learn skills for a future career.
    • Work with local businesses.
    • Network with professionals.
    • Earn credit on your high school transcript.

    Internship options

    • Micro-Internships: 30-hour NON-PAID, one-semester course (.25 credit).
    • Traditional Internship: 60-hour NON-PAID, one-semester course (.50 credit).

    Internship information

    • Students can earn a letter grade (A = 4.0) or take the course Pass/No credit.
    • The Internship is included on high school transcripts and is classified by one of the seven endorsement areas determined by the Illinois State Board of Education.
    • Student participation is monitored by Center for Career Discovery staff.

    Internship Requirements

    • Have taken career pathway coursework in the area of interest
    • Be 16 years old by the start of the semester of the internship
    • Be a Junior or Senior (or will be a Junior/Senior in the fall for a summer internship)
    • Regularly check school issued @stu.d214 email

    * Students should consider their schedule and commitments to school activities/ athletics prior to applying.  Internships are offered during the Fall, Spring and Summer, and students should apply for an internship experience in the semester(s) in which they will be able to fulfill the time commitment. 

    It is strongly recommended that students meet with their School Counselor and/or Student Success coach to discuss career goals.  

    Application Deadlines

    • Summer Internship: February 28th
    • Fall Internship: April 30th
    • Spring Internship: October 31st

    After the application deadline, interviews will be scheduled and take place at school. Due to the customization and individualization involved with securing each Internship placement, acceptance into the program does not guarantee placement.
